Entertainment Attorney – Matthew Middleton, Middleton Law Group, New York, New York

Matt Middleton has been an entertainment lawyer for 14 years. He is heavily in the music industry and he has watched the industry at its best and at its worst. There were many things that stood out that Matthew Middleton said I will never forget as I start my own company. Matthew Middleton discussed the importance of being in control of your business and of your work. It is important to protect your work, whether it be trademark copyright etc. You cannot leave it up to someone else all of time to do what you need to be doing as a business owner. He also stated that it doesn’t hurt to have a mentor to get you familiar with the business that you are entering in. He also said it is good to do an internship if you possible can. Even though an internship may be a non paying position, it is experience all the same that you need. The more you know the better off you will be. Matthew Middleton also mentioned that it is imperative to network. Networking is the key in the Entertainment business. This is a "all in who you know business." Building solid relationships will be key as you progress further.

Being a Successful Woman Business Owner

It is important to be very assertive as a business owner.  Being a woman business owner our job may be a little harder as a woman because the myth is women can’t put in the time to be successful as men are since women have the home, kids etc. to take care of.  Women and men travel with their jobs even more now despite having children. Women make the necessary arrangements to do just as good of a job as a man would. When owning your own business it is understood what the requirements are even though we as women may be underestimated. It is nothing wrong with hiring help. As a woman business owner you still have household responsibilities that society has labeled as a woman’s job or chore. Being a successful woman business owner means not listening to the myths but going after your passion. It is a fact that women get paid less than men. Woman starting their own business is not rare because woman find that they can be recognized on a better playing field against men they own their own business.
